Some days (such as yesterday for me, for instance) you are unlikely to get much done besides being a lap for a child. On a day like that, you may as well give in and enjoy some time to read. These sites are great for a little artistic pick-me-up, a collection of links about balancing motherhood and art:
- Life and Art: Three tools for blending Creativity and Motherhood is a wonderful post written by Miranda Hersey.
- Miranda is also the creator of a Studio Mothers
where you can hear from women all over the world making art and being moms. - Shona Cole is the author of “The Artistic Mother” and keeps an inspiring blog.
- Tammy at Daisy Yellow leads Index Card A Day and has many more ideas, prompts and tutorials to get you making art. I love the description of her site: A vivid life with kids.
- Are you being Creative Every Day? Join this challenge hosted by Leah Piken Kolidas (a new mom herself) and be inspired!

- “The truth of the matter is, your life is your art.” From Honey Bloom at Home, Author Shannon Honeybloom will encourage you to see the art in your every day life.
- Author of the book, The Divided Heart: Art and Motherhood, Rachel Powers blogs about, “art, motherhood and everything in between” on her blog, The Rachel Papers,
- 7 Strategies for Putting Your Authentic Self First on Authetic Mama
- On the Artful Parent, Jean has an entire collection of interviews with creative parents. See how others combine parenting and art.
Who Does She think She is? a film about women refusing to choose between mothering and creativity.- ETA: I just found Julia Crossland! This post is all about how she got, “reaquainted with” her artist self. She also has a whole section of Posts to Inspire You if you look in her side bar; fun!
Do you know of blogs or posts that I’ve left out? Please let me know, I love finding resources that help us remember that we don’t have to leave art behind when we become mothers.
