Index Card Keepsakes

by Alissa Marquess on June 6, 2011

On Mondays I post about what my creative practice has been over the past week.  For the last month that’s been sketching, but things switched a bit this week.  I joined Daisy Yellow’s Index Card a Day Challenge and so I’ve been out of my sketchbook and onto index cards.

On the left, another attempt at drawing with pen.  Working on that goal of simplicity is tricky!

On the right- a pancake recipe that started as a waffle recipe.

Below, my favorite index card project from this week (you can click on the photo if you’d like to see it larger.):

We had a child dedication at church yesterday for my kids and another family’s two boys.  At our church the kids receive a treasure box at their dedication.  People put in trinkets and heartfelt notes for the children to keep.  Our minister usually supplies the boxes, but she’s packing to move and had stopped picking up treasure keepers a couple months ago.  Her creative solution was these take out boxes.  I made nameplates for each out of index cards!

I told the boys afterward, “Later we’ll get you special boxes to put your treasures in.” and James said, “But these are special!”

Very cute!  I’m always trying to create something out of nothing WHEN I get time to create!
