Oh Mama, I don’t feel Good

by Alissa Marquess on November 10, 2011

We’re having a sick day for the baby today.  Poor sad toddler; I’ve been lucky that for her, this is only the second time she’s been sick.  Doesn’t she look like she feels betrayed?  Like, “I didn’t know I could feel this bad!”

This kid has a cold

What are your cure-alls for sick kids?
It seems like every family has something that you just DO when you are sick.  If you’re a sick kid in our house you are guaranteed to hear, “Oh, maybe you should take a hot bath, I bet that will make you feel better.” and “Have you taken Vitamin C?” These were the sure bets when I was a kid too, so partly, regardless of how my kids feel about it, I think I am ingrained to think mothering sick kids means you give them a bath and you give them Vitamin C!

For this one-year old a sick day means lots of nursing, lots of napping and a probably a bath too…and a Vitamin C drink if she’ll take it!

What cures “everything” in your household?

My momma gave us honey, lemon, and Southern Comfort. Worked back then so we used it with our kids. Worked for them, too. (grin)

Camomile tea with honey and snuggling on the couch under a blanket. And while I can’t give it to my kids it always included melba toast with butter when I was a sick kiddo.

Thank you. After trading this I tried tea, but mama milk was all she wanted.

Doesn’t menthol on the feet make your feet cold?! I’ll remember that one though, I’m intrigued.
