Our Favorite Easy Treat

*This is an update to say: You can make this shake dairy free

In the past, I posted about my son’s favorite cookbook, Molly Katezen’s  Pretend Soup. We love to make the banana chocolate shake from it.  In that older post we used milk in the recipe.

The shake recipe is simply bananas, cocoa powder, milk and a couple ice cubes.  We put these in, in whatever amount we need, to make shakes for everyone.

I just wanted to post an update to say this is also a fabulous shake made dairy free.  We just replace the milk with coconut milk and a bit of water.  I use unsweetened cocoa and find it plenty sweet with the bananas, but my oldest son like a couple drops of stevia in his.  I have successfully added some pureed greens to this smoothie as well, but while my kids are willing to drink blatantly and meant-to-be-green smoothies, they would prefer I NOT mess with their chocolate banana smoothies by putting collard greens in.

Ok, can’t blame them there.

Yum, that sounds really simple and delicious.

Also wanted to let you know that the parcel of fabric arrived last week. Thanks Alissa – I love them (especially that leaf print on hessian) and plan to make some place mats and coasters.
