Pregnancy Insomnia Knitting

by Alissa Marquess on October 3, 2010

Towards the end of this last pregnancy, when pregnacy insonia hit, I turned to knitting as something to fill the hours between 3am and 6am (when I’d finally get sleepy again.)  For simple and cute knits for babies I’ve loved knitting from Natural Knits for Babies and Moms by Louisa Harding.  I am not crazy enough…err committed enough to knit a nursing or maternity sweater, but the baby hats and booties knit up quickly and don’t require more than my beginning knitting skills can manage.  I also started on a little knit kitty that I’m almost done with.  Louisa’s pattern for knitting a stuffed bunny, kitty or bear has got to be one the the simplest out there and it’s quite adorable.  I’m working on making a knit toy for each of my kids and the three cousins for Christmas gifts this year.  Or at least one of my kids ; )

I didn’t know if I was having a boy or a girl so I went for a neutral (yes, it’s almost boringly neutral, but oh well) color washable wool yarn.

The hat came out super cute, but a bit short for my rather round headed newborn.  If I got real motivated I could add some knitting to the bottom and lengthen it, but truth be told I am a bit sick of this yarn and realistically that is unlikely to happen.

I love the booties though. They stay on newborn footsies and I think they’re cute. the footsies and the booties.
