I could lie.
I mean it looks like this was one fun activity, and…it was, basically. I think the boys had fun until, “GASP…Mama!!! It’s on my rainbow shirt!!!!” (said in an increasing shriek of horror.) And then there was the smell….
I can tolerate shaving cream smell when confined to small amounts, however, if you do NOT like the smell of shaving cream, do not let yourself be delusional enough to believe it will wash out of you children’s clothes, the bathtub, the floor, their very pores…
And something’s got to be said about the balloons. It seemed so cool to put shaving cream in a balloon and then let the boys pop it.
Uhhh, yeah… so pins become slippery and invisible once coated in shaving cream. Could have used a little more forethought on that idea.
Then the balloons that weren’t popped, of course, had to accompany the boys into the bathroom so they could continue to drip sneaky shaving cream blops through the house, making pungent little shaving cream fragrance bombs to find later.
So- we won’t be doing this one again!
You know, I love to click around on the web getting inspired for things to do with my kids, but some days…probably the days I’m feeling tired and overwhelmed to begin with, I just feel so inadequate looking at all those perfect little projects where everyone had a great time (!)
I know we all have our moments where that perfect plan goes awry. What have you done that just flopped?
ETA: I had put a linky on this, but I removed it after I realized that really, people don’t post about their flops too often, so no one has anything to link!

I laughed so hard! I have a post coming up on my blog exactly like this, we used a little less shaving cream though, and made bath paint. It looked like so much fun on another blog, until I realised that I didn’t mix the food colouring enough, and I ended up with a blue child. At least it is winter here and I was able to cover up her ‘blueness’. Great blog!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. This post is too funny! It’s amazing how much shaving cream fits into those little cans!
The photos and post are awesome! Thanks for sharing the fail because I’ve been planning some shaving cream fun with my kids and these are great things to know
I have numerous flops- art projects that just don’t turn out accordingly, activities that were a bust- I applaud you for linking this up! It made me giggle! Thanks for sharing your idea with us on The Sunday Showcase !
I love your write up on this one. You know, we do lots and lots of messy play but we’ve never tried shaving cream because I always thought it a bit, well, icky. And after reading this post, we never will
Too bad! I’ve never tried shaving cream, either, and you make me feel less guilty depriving my kids of that experience =)
We do a lot of shaving cream play but I just give a small plastic box with high walls to each one of my kids, we do not use much cream and they use an old shirt we use for painting activities. This way, you can experience the fun but it is not too messy. Outside is also a good idea. I washes off really easy.
Thanks for sharing with us. I also feel down when some of our ideas fail so it is nice to see that it is not only us.
We did this activity, but since I have a 1 year old, I decided not to do it in a place she could come and try to eat all of our shaving cream, so we did it in the shower. They wore bathing suits and at the end took a shower. It wasn’ t that bad, but I had to wash their hair a lot of times to get the smell out. It was some lemon-lime type
