Sketchbook Glimpse

by Alissa Marquess on May 8, 2011

A few of my sketches from this week…

The one of Azalea (my daughter) sleeping was fun because I started out trying to draw just one line and did that a couple times, then did another looking only at shapes in her face.  Finally, I did a “shapes” one with a “line” one over the top and  played with shading from there (upper left corner of the sketch.)  It was a fun experiment and finally got me to look enough at the ear to see it in a way that made it (sort of) easier to draw.  I finally saw the spiral I’d been missing.

The bottom two are my chicken scratch, hee hee.  Trying to draw these girls made me want a stuffed chicken to draw…of course I suppose that’s partly the point of doing these super quick exercises.  I am totally new to trying to capture something moving on the page- it’s tricky!

Happy Mother’s Day!  I’m going to see if my kids will work on a collaborative painting with me today.  And of course I’ll sketch at some point.  Do you sketch every day?

love watching the “in progress” nature of your posting. I want to learn to draw… one of these days….

I love the sketch of your daughter sleeping. The chicken ones are so fun too! Those have got to be tough trying to draw them…I know how fast they can move!
