Sling Time

by Alissa Marquess on October 1, 2010

It’s sweet to be carrying a baby in a sling again.  I have a pouch sling I made when Leland was little that I use sometimes  (that’s what she’s sleeping in below)

However, I’ve been getting a lot more use out of my ring sling.  I think, having gotten very used to using a ring sling with my first child, I just feel most comfortable using that for a carrier.  This time I made a new one out of a beautiful hemp/cotton fabric, vintage fabric trim and a bird I appliqued on the pocket.

The bird is made out of a piece of pieced fabric my mom found in a thrift store.  In fact, she found a large box full of these pieced diamonds. I’m happy to be finding some use for them because they were just too wonky and fragile to make anything large, but I love how it looks on the little shape of the bird.

A close up of the applique and the picture I used for inspiration.
