In a month filled with thankfulness and giving, I give you a simple way to notice and be grateful for the creativity in your life.
Keep a creativity gratitude journal.
I asked recently on Google+ about how people handle the sometimes complicated balancing act of both parenting and developing your own creativity. One dad had an elegant idea:
“Have you tried looking back at the end of each day and record the creative moments, and being thankful for them? It can help to be more conscious of the moments, so that you can enjoy them more fully as they come up day by day.”
“I actually do a little gratitude journal entry on Evernote every day before bed. Leaves me with a good taste of the day, and lots of little nuggets for future creative endeavors whether visual or written.”
~Jamie Maltman
What if we give this a try? Think about where you could record your creativity gratitude each day- in a journal, in Evernote or even on Facebook or other social media.
Don’t complicate it!Just commit to writing it down for a week, a month- let’s do this each day and see how we feel.
This is a tool that can help us realize we can bring creativity to everyday tasks, and by noticing our own creativity we naturally help it flourish.
Alright- if you’re thinking, “Hmm, this is a good idea.” Go now, choose what to use for your Creativity Gratitude Journal! Put it where you’ll use it!
Maybe get all crazy and DOODLE a bit on the first page just to get going…;)

I’m actually up to 3 months now that I’ve been doing this in EverNote every day, and before that for a month or more in a paper journal. The more you’re grateful for what you have, and put down ideas or creative experiences, the more of them come up in your life. And better ones!
I had a gratitude journal in college and it was a fun thing to do. I love the idea of starting it up again – with my kids!
Love this idea!
I’ve followed Jamie’s lead and am keeping mine electronically. I thought I would be using my little notebook, but as it turns out it is simpler and less likely for me to forget if I make an entry on my phone into a SpringPad notebook. Three days in and I am definitely noticing myself… well, *notice* more creative spots during the day.
