This is my first post for [this much] a photo project started by Shawna of Styleberry Blog. When I read about the idea of self portraiture with kids I was, at first, simply envious (I mean, the gals photos are stunning.) My heart ached a bit with the wanting my own photos of me and my kids. Then a little voice (the one that has some smarts and which I continue to encourage to speak up) said, “Well, you might not be a photographer, nor have the perfect camera; you could still do it anyways.” Oh. right. So I’m joining in the project and taking a monthly photo. I even figured out how to use the self timer!
Leland on my shoulders being my “kitty” right after he was starting to lose it but I’ve “shaken the grumpies out of him” and gotten him laughing and cheerful again.
Azalea just after she’s awakened from a nap and we are doing the silly-making-popping-sounds game.
James telling me about the Lego crane he wants and what he will write to Santa about it. (Including, “I hope you like the wine and scotch and cookies.”)
These felt very good to take. Right now, while we’re opening this brewery, my husband is working so hard out in that world, and I am working so hard here at home. Taking these portraits felt like a little pause that gave me a glimpse back in to the parts of mothering I love best.
Join us if you like - I’ve never done self portraits before, and it’s fun! I’d love do see what you do, drop me a link!

I really don’t have any pictures of me with my kids. I am always behind the lens. I hate seeing myself in photos, but I really get sad that when all is said and done there won’t be much of a memory of me in my kids photos. You have inspired me to try and use the self timer and get myself in the photos I take.
So funny, I just took some self portraits (and portraits by the 5 year old) of me and baby. I have been doing Ali Edwards’ “A week in the life” this week ending today and realized I had almost no photos of me. so I took a few. It is fun.
love it!!! You will cherish these captured memories FOREVER! Thank you for the kind things you’ve said about me…& remember this is for your babies!!
